The Pelicans... from Ric & Judy's workshop

Some of the work that I fired recently is from what I learnt in Ric and Judy's workshop in Dec 2010. Ric and Judy Pierce did a slab building work shop here are Anandgram.

They hail from Beechworth, Australia and own One Tree Hill Pottery Both are great teachers and opened their heart teaching us during the workshop. For me this was a very good workshop as it opened me up to work beyond wheel thrown pieces.

Ric taught us how to do Pelicans and use engineering (his background) skills in this art. Here are some pictures of the pieces that I did, I think they have come out very well... I love them... They are now decorated in my living room...

Picture below... Ric & Judy on last day of the workshop...

Thanks Ric and Judy.... I learnt a lot from both of you...

Some more...

Here are some more photos from the batch... I am also trying to establish a small setup where I can take some good shots of the work. I am still experimenting and getting used to my brand new EOS 550D, I struggle keeping the whole piece in sharp focus. And then the struggle with flash with glassy surface...

Well I can say for sure, lot to learn and experiment...... but will get there.... :-)

Cheers....

Its so good to finally see my work be born!

Finally, after a cycle of almost 2 years of learning the clay I recently finished my first batch of work. It is an amazing feeling to see one's work complete a life cycle and be born!

Working with clay hard work and takes long time specially when you do not do this full time. Over the last two years I learnt the techniques, attended some workshops, worked many weekends, wasted some good work, almost had some great pieces that were broken...

In Jan 11, I finally got all that I had done over last two years together and booked my time at Anandgram kilns! Arun Mukhuty at Anandgram - in charge, teacher and a very good and helpful friend at Anandgram helped me schedule the firings, plan glazing, helped glaze and the finally carried out the glaze fining. This was a cone 8 firing.

The glazes used were copper red, black, blue and dolowhite. I took first set of photographs over the weekend and posting below.

Over the next few weekends I will get some better pictures and post.

Oct Has Been Good

Hi Folks,

I have some more updates, October has been a good month! Maybe the weather at this time of the year, specially this year has been very helpful.

Also being able to work within your home is also helpful. I have done some lidded jars in the last two weeks. One came very nice (picture below).

Lidded Box

I was particularly happy with the ratios and the clean lines I was able to achieve. The Lid could be bit better and I still need to work on making the pots lighter than what I am doing at the moment.

I have got better with trimming and specially getting the foot right! Well as Simon Leach says ... keep practicing... :-)

The pots I have done will have to wait most likely till Dec to get bisque fired. This is busy season at Anandgram and hence I am unable to get a firing slot.

I signed up for a workshop end Nov, this is by Ric and Judy from Australia and I look forward to some good action end Nov.

More later....

Nope I have not given up!

Yes its been long time since I posted anything here, but action has not stopped. Over the last many months, many things changed. It comes and goes, but once the clay starts going through your hands, everything floods back!

Just to let you all know, I joined pottery classes at Anandgram, New Delhi. I think it was important for me to balance individual work and learning with a group under supervision. This went on for a few months and I think I gained a lot with close supervision from Arun who teaches at Anandgram.

I also moved my wheel into my home. Not wanting to travel 30 mins one way to work. And then there were changes in my professional life which kept me away from both classes at Anandgram as well as my individual work.

But things are falling into place now. I have started to throw steadily over last month or so at home. I am also all set to attend a 5 day workshop end Nov and I am looking forward to that one.

Here in the picture you can see me experimenting with texture. I am looking forward to some good action over next 4 months. I also plan to me more active here and post more regularly.
